Description :This is the recently restored 1847 Hancock House, located in beautiful Bentonsport,Iowa. The house was constructed when building materials were hand hewn and locally milled. Door hardware was shipped north out of St. Louis by Steamboat. The house has witnessed immigrants in wagon trains, steamboat travelers, runaway slaves, blue clad soldiers, and Mormons heading west. The Hancock House is just one of the 32 historic buildings in Bentonsport, one of the eleven Villages of Van Buren, and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. There is a group of local artisans that fill our village and many operate shops along our small main street. Make your stay at the Bentonsport Village Bed & Breakfast a part of your Villages Folk School class, canoe trip, historic adventure, antique shopping, fishing trip, or relaxing weekend.
