1906 beschlossen die Lägerers, die Hütte am heutigen Standort zu bauen und eröffneten sie 1909, weil sie in einem Gletschergebiet lag und daher für das damals angesagte Skifahren prädestiniert war. Andererseits sind wir aufgrund unserer Lage ziemlich schneesicher. Das Gebiet von Rotondo bietet Tourenskifahrern seit jeher eine Vielzahl abwechslungsreicher Tourenmöglichkeiten. Auch heute hat sich nichts geändert, außer dass die Hütte nicht mehr von Gletschern umgeben ist. Die Hütte liegt auf 2.570 m Seehöhe.
