The Mount Whitney Portal Hostel and Hotel (located in Lone Pine) is a great place for people to stay. With bunk beds and new hotel rooms, it's luxurious...for a hostel. It has a view of Mt. Whitney, but being in town, it allots for walking to restaurants and stores. There's a lobby area for others to gather and a store if you've forgotten something, or need a souvenir. There are showers for hikers, if that's all you need too. A microwave, and a fridge are wonderful accommodations for those traveling on a budget as well.
